JASHORE — Police recovered the bodies of a man and his two young sons from their home in Chotakapota Southpara village of Sharsha upazila in Jashore district on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Kamal Hossain, 45, and his sons Sabir, 5, and Jabir, about 2½ years old.
Police said they initially suspect that Kamal killed his two sons before dying by suicide. However, authorities said the exact circumstances surrounding the children’s deaths and the motive behind the incident remain under investigation.
According to local sources, Kamal had seven children from multiple marriages. He had divorced his first two wives, while his latest wife reportedly left the family home for her parents’ house in Narail about a week ago following a family dispute. The two young boys had remained at home with their father.
The children’s bodies were reportedly found inside the house around Tuesday afternoon. Police initially suspected that the boys had been strangled. Kamal was also believed to have died after consuming a poisonous gas tablet.
After being alerted, officers from Sharsha Police Station went to the scene and recovered all three bodies. The bodies were subsequently taken for further examination as part of the investigation.
Sharsha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shaminul Haque confirmed the deaths and said Kamal had died by suicide.
He said the deaths of the two children were being investigated and that the exact cause of their deaths, as well as the circumstances that led to the incident, would be established after the investigation. Police are continuing to investigate the case.
