Woman Beaten to Death Inside Home in Cumilla’s Chandina

- August 18, 2026, 02:28 PM ET

CUMILLA — A 58-year-old Hindu woman was allegedly beaten to death after unidentified assailants entered her home in Chandina upazila of Cumilla on Monday night, police and family members said.

The victim, Bina Rani Roy, wife of Dilip Kumar Roy, lived in the Shil Bari area of Borkoit South Para under Borkoit Union. The attack took place at around 8:30 p.m.

According to relatives and local residents, the couple had been living alone at the house as other members of the family were staying elsewhere for work.

Bina had completed her evening prayers and was watching television at home when her husband went to a nearby shop for tea. Taking advantage of his absence, several unidentified assailants allegedly entered the house and began beating her indiscriminately.

Her screams alerted relatives and neighbors, who rushed to the house. The attackers fled before they arrived.

Bina was found critically injured and taken to Cumilla Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Her son, Tapas Roy, said the assailants entered the house after finding his mother alone and brutally beat her to death.

The family, however, could not immediately identify the attackers or determine a specific motive for the killing.

Borkoit Union Parishad Chairman Nure Alam said local residents suspected that previous hostility might have been behind the attack. He said the family had reportedly been involved in a longstanding land dispute with neighbors.

Police have not yet established the motive, and the reported land dispute remains one of the issues investigators are expected to examine.

Chandina Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Nuruzzaman said police recovered the body after being informed of the incident and sent it to the morgue at Cumilla Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.

Several police teams are working to determine the circumstances behind the killing and identify and arrest those responsible, the OC said.

Police were also in the process of filing a murder case with Chandina Police Station.
