Letter Found in Shah Jalal Shrine Seeking Prayers for Sheikh Hasina’s Long Life

Sylhet, 15 August- A letter seeking prayers for the long life and protection of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was found inside a donation vessel at the shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA) in Sylhet on Saturday.

The letter was discovered around 10am while money from three large donation vessels and three donation boxes at the shrine was being counted publicly in the presence of authorities and visitors. Around 30 volunteers took part in the counting process.

According to the letter, its writer identified himself as “Sajib,” a resident of Gazipur and a supporter of the Sylhet Awami League. He appealed to Allah to protect Sheikh Hasina from what he described as the “face of death” and to extend her life.

The writer also prayed for Sheikh Hasina’s protection from what he called “conspiracy cases” related to July, and sought protection for Awami League leaders and activists from what he described as “false murder cases.”

The letter included the heading “Return-2” and mentioned “Sheikh Hasina December 2026,” apparently referring to a hoped-for return.

Several other letters were also found among the money during the counting process. They concerned various personal and family matters.

One letter, written by a woman named Hena, reportedly contained a prayer asking Allah to bring her husband back from what she described as a wrong path. She also prayed for those who had allegedly influenced her husband negatively to be punished and for drugs to be eradicated from the world.

Officials said the counting of the large amount of money collected from the donation boxes and vessels could continue until the evening.
