Hollywood is mourning veteran actor Mike Preston, best known internationally for his role as Pappagallo in the 1981 cult classic Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. He died on June 8 in Florida at the age of 93.
News of Preston’s death was made public nearly a month and a half later. His wife, Josie Preston, confirmed his death in an interview with Variety.
Preston leaves behind his wife and two daughters.
The actor gained international recognition for his portrayal of Pappagallo, the leader of a group of survivors defending an oil refinery in Mad Max 2. His commanding performance in the post-apocalyptic action film earned praise from audiences and critics and helped establish him as a recognizable face in Hollywood.
Released in 1981, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, directed by George Miller and starring Mel Gibson, became a landmark in the action and post-apocalyptic genres. The film developed a devoted global following and remains one of the most influential movies of its era.
