Trump Wins Ohio in 2024 Presidential Election

Former President Donald Trump is projected to win Ohio, securing its 17 electoral votes. To win the presidency, a candidate needs at least 270 electoral votes.

Background: Although Ohio was once seen as a key swing state, it has shifted solidly Republican. Trump previously won Ohio in both the 2016 and 2020 elections by similar margins. In 2020, while President Joe Biden saw slight improvements over Hillary Clinton in urban areas like Columbus and Cincinnati, his performance fell short in Cleveland.

The blue-collar coalition that former President Barack Obama assembled in northeast Ohio eroded for Democrats, as Trump flipped Mahoning County and expanded his support in Trumbull and Portage counties—areas that had previously voted for Obama in both 2008 and 2012.
