The film, which doesn’t have a title yet, is being made for Amazon MGM Studios. The script is being written by Virgil Williams, based on an earlier draft by Max Werner. Catherine Davis, a big fan of George Clinton, came up with the idea and shared it with Murphy.
Bill Condon and Eddie Murphy previously worked together on the film “Dreamgirls,” where Murphy received an Oscar nomination and won a Golden Globe for his role.
The movie will be based on Clinton’s memoir, “Brothas Be, Yo Like George, Ain’t That Funkin’ Kinda Hard On You?” It will tell the story of George Clinton, the leader of the funk music group Parliament-Funkadelic, and his journey in music. Clinton is known for his unique style, combining sci-fi themes and psychedelic music.
Murphy has worked with Amazon MGM Studios before on films like “Candy Cane Lane” and “Coming 2 America.” He will also star in another upcoming film called “The Pickup.”
Bill Condon is currently finishing up a movie called “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” which stars Jennifer Lopez and Diego Luna. He has directed other well-known films, including “Kinsey” and “Gods and Monsters.”
Virgil Williams is known for his Oscar-nominated work on the film “Mudbound.”
