Golden Globes 2025: Early Predictions for Movies and TV Shows

The Golden Globes will celebrate their 82nd ceremony in January 2025, and excitement is building as award season approaches. The deadline for submitting films and TV shows is November 4, and this year features a mix of popular and new entries, making the competition intense.

Key Predictions
Movies : The comedy and musical categories are expected to be very competitive. Netflix’s ‘Emilia Pérez’, Neon’s ‘Anora’, and Universal’s ‘Wicked’ are frontrunners, with stars like Karla Sofía Gascón, Mikey Madison, and Cynthia Erivo in the running.

In the lead comedy actor category, Jesse Plemons, who won at Cannes for ‘Kinds of Kindness’, is leading the charge.

The drama categories are crowded with talent, featuring actors like Adrien Brody, Ralph Fiennes, and Timothée Chalamet.

Notable Contenders
Lead Actress : Angelina Jolie, Tilda Swinton, and Nicole Kidman are strong candidates.
Supporting Actress : Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande could be key contenders, while Lady Gaga may receive a nod despite mixed reviews for ‘Joker 2’.
Supporting Actor : Kieran Culkin and Denzel Washington are among the favorites.

TV Predictions
Recent Emmy winners like FX’s ‘Shogun’ and HBO/Max’s ‘Hacks’ are likely to get nominations. New shows like Netflix’s ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’ may also be recognized. Returning hits such as ‘Squid Game’ and ‘Only Murders in the Building’ are expected to make an impact.

Changes in the Globes
The Golden Globes have improved their diversity and transparency since facing criticism in 2020. Last year’s ceremony had about 10 million viewers, the highest since 2020.

The 2025 Golden Globe Awards will take place on January 5 and will be hosted by Nikki Glaser, with Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner returning as executive producers.
