New Godzilla Movie Announced

Godzilla is coming back to the big screen! A new Godzilla movie has been officially approved by Toho, the Japanese company that created Godzilla. This movie will be directed by Takashi Yamazaki, who made last year’s award-winning film ‘Godzilla Minus One’.

Takashi Yamazaki will write and direct the new movie and will also work on the special effects. He won an award for best visual effects in 2023.

‌‘Godzilla Minus One’ was the 33rd movie in the Godzilla series. It is set in Japan after World War II and tells the story of Kōichi Shikishima, a former kamikaze pilot played by Ryunosuke Kamiki. He survives a dangerous meeting with Godzilla and deals with PTSD. When Godzilla returns years later, a group of soldiers and veterans must come together to stop him from destroying Japan. Other cast members include Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, and Jennifer Lopez.

It’s not clear if the new movie will continue the story from Godzilla Minus One. The last movie ended with a cliffhanger: after Godzilla is defeated, a piece of his body starts to grow back in the ocean. There is also a mystery about Shikishima’s girlfriend, Noriko Ōishi, who has a strange mark on her neck after her encounter with Godzilla.

‌‘Godzilla Minus One’ was praised for its special effects and cost about $15 million to make. It earned $116 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Godzilla film in Japan.
