Magic in China: Spectacular Start for Venom Worldwide

Sony’s “Venom: The Last Dance” has achieved a global opening of $175 million. Of this, it has earned $51 million in the United States, while overseas theaters contributed $124 million, with China leading among 64 countries.

In terms of overseas markets, Venom marks the third largest opening for a Hollywood film this year, following “Inside Out 2” and “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Additionally, it ranks second in the list of the year’s best openings for Hollywood films in the Chinese market.

The third installment of the Venom franchise was released worldwide on October 24, although it hit theaters in China a day earlier. So far, it has grossed $1.5 billion globally.

In China, “Venom: The Last Dance” earned $46 million over five days. Following China, the top markets include Mexico ($7.3 million), South Korea ($5.8 million), the UK ($5.7 million), India ($4.7 million), Germany ($4.1 million), Italy ($3.4 million), Australia ($3.2 million), Spain ($2.7 million), and Indonesia ($2.7 million).

China is increasingly becoming a significant market for films. Producers from various countries now prioritize Chinese audiences when releasing movies, and there is a trend of releasing films in China before their global launch.

With this in mind, “Venom: The Last Dance” was released in Chinese theaters on October 23, where it performed better than expected. The film has also found success in Southeast Asia, as well as in Scandinavian countries and Germany. It has made an impressive start in India as well. Expectations are high that “Venom 2” is on track for substantial earnings.

The Marvel Comics film is directed by Kelly Marcel, with Tom Hardy reprising his role as Venom.
