BCS Police Six Batches Cadres Face Reverification

The government has initiated a second round of verification for six BCS police officers to identify any political affiliations, particularly with the Chhatra League, appointed during the Awami League’s tenure.
This reverification, ordered by the Special Branch (SB) of the police, seeks to clarify the candidates’ political orientation, family background, and involvement in campus politics.
The targeted cadres include officers from the 28th, 35th, 36th, 37th, 40th, and 41st BCS batches, with eight specific details to be scrutinized.
The directive, issued on October 20, requires officers not below the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police to submit a confidential report.
The report should include each officer’s personal details, such as their name, date of birth, national ID, phone numbers, email, social media accounts, TIN, and passport number.
The SB directive specifies that officers’ educational institutions, fields of study, residence halls, and involvement in student politics be examined thoroughly. If the candidate studied outside their home district, police are instructed to gather information on political associations through local contacts. The letter also calls for cross-references from the officer’s records in police stations, known contacts during their academic years, and input from community leaders, journalists, and contemporaries.
Additionally, the report mandates verification of any potential links with militant groups.
According to documents obtained from the police headquarters, a total of 1,383 assistant superintendents of police (ASP) were appointed or recommended for appointment across 11 BCS exams from 2010 to 2023.
In addition, there have been significant recruitments for the positions of Sub-Inspector (SI), Sergeant, and Constable. Initially, a confidential investigation is being conducted regarding cadre police officers. The police also plan to gradually investigate the cadre SIs.
According to relevant sources, after Sheikh Hasina’s government assumed power in 2009, 180 people were appointed to the ASP position in the 28th BCS in 2010.

In 2017, 114 individuals were recruited in the 35th BCS, followed by 115 in the 36th BCS in 2018, and 97 in the 37th BCS in 2019.

Additionally, on November 1, 2022, 71 ASPs were appointed in the 40th BCS.

Meanwhile, in 2023, recommendations have been made to appoint 100 individuals to the ASP position in the 41st BCS.

Additionally, during the tenure of the Awami League government, 35 people were appointed in the 29th BCS in 2011, 184 in the 30th BCS in 2012, 184 in the 31st BCS in 2013, 155 in the 33rd BCS in 2014, and 148 in the 34th BCS in 2016. They will also be brought under a confidential investigation process.
