The convener of the Creative Writers’ Association and other members were attacked yesterday (October 19) when they came to form a human chain at the National Press Club protesting the cancellation of the government holiday on the occasion of the historic March 7 speech. The interim government of Bangladesh canceled the holiday. The convener of the Creative Writers Association said that after August 5, a confrontation atmosphere has been created in the country. We have many national intellectual writers with us. In the current situation of the country, they do not dare to come forward and we can see the logical reason for this. The way we were attacked before we came to form a human chain and opened the banner, I am still alive as a strong capable person.
On March 7, 1971, Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered an 18-minute speech to the Bengali nation at the present Sarwardy Udyan in Dhaka against the Pakistani rule and exploitation.
On October 30, 2017, UNESCO recognized the historic 7th March speech as a world documentary heritage. A total of 77 important documents, including this speech, were recognized simultaneously.
