Trump: Death of Hamas Leader Could Open Path to Gaza Peace

Donald Trump believes the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar could make peace in Gaza more achievable, suggesting it eases the path forward. Speaking in Detroit during his campaign events on Friday, the former president told reporters, “I think it makes it easier.” Sinwar, the architect behind the deadly October 7, 2023, Hamas attack that killed 1,200 Israelis and took 250 hostages, was killed by Israeli forces on Wednesday in southern Gaza.

Trump also indicated he plans to speak soon with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, praising his leadership while criticizing the Biden administration for allegedly restraining the Israeli leader. “Biden is trying to hold him back… and he probably should be doing the opposite,” Trump remarked.

The conflict, which escalated following the October attack, has claimed nearly 42,000 Palestinian lives, displaced millions, and sparked widespread humanitarian concerns. The situation in Gaza remains dire, with global calls for improved aid access. Meanwhile, Israel’s military operations have also extended into Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah militants amid cross-border tensions.
