India Pushes Back Over 1,270 Individuals into Bangladesh, Sparking Diplomatic Tensions

Dhaka, June 5, 2025 — Bangladesh has reported that neighboring India has pushed more than 1,270 individuals across its border in the past month, primarily Bangladeshi nationals, but also including Indian citizens and Rohingya refugees. The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) stated that between May 7 and June 3, a total of 1,272 individuals were pushed into Bangladesh through 19 bordering districts, with 50 individuals pushed in just the day before the report.

The Indian government has not officially commented on these recent returns. However, Indian authorities have often described undocumented immigrants as “Muslim infiltrators,” accusing them of posing a security threat.

In response to these incidents, Bangladesh’s foreign affairs adviser, Md Touhid Hossain, accused India of declaring individuals as foreigners and pushing them into Bangladesh without following proper deportation procedures. He announced that Dhaka would send a formal diplomatic note to New Delhi to address the issue.

The situation has raised concerns over border management and human rights, with reports of individuals being dropped in remote areas without adequate provisions. The BGB continues to monitor the situation closely, and further diplomatic engagements between the two countries are anticipated.
