11 Killed in Stampede During RCB’s IPL Victory Celebration

The Voice News: Despite the deployment of 5,000 police personnel, tragedy struck during a celebration event in Bengaluru.

For the first time in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) clinched the trophy. To commemorate the victory, the Karnataka government organized a grand felicitation ceremony at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, the celebration turned tragic as a stampede occurred during the event, resulting in at least 11 deaths.

After 18 long years, RCB finally brought home their first IPL trophy. A victory rally was organized in Bengaluru to honor the team’s success. While thousands gathered to be part of the historic celebration, chaos ensued, and at least 11 people lost their lives in the stampede. Over 50 others were injured, and the death toll may rise, officials fear.

A massive crowd had gathered to catch a glimpse of the victorious RCB team led by Virat Kohli. As the team approached the Chinnaswamy Stadium, pushing and shoving broke out. Near the entry gate of the stadium, several people fell and were trampled by the crowd. The situation quickly spiraled into disorder, with emergency services rushing the injured to nearby hospitals.

Although police were deployed in large numbers, they failed to control the overwhelming crowd. Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, upon hearing about the incident, said, “I cannot confirm the exact number of deaths yet. I am heading to the stadium. A huge crowd had gathered. We deployed 5,000 personnel. But we cannot resort to baton charges against the youth.”
