IPL 2025 Suspended Indefinitely Amid India-Pakistan Conflict

The 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been suspended indefinitely due to ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, according to a report by Indian news agency PTI.

The decision comes after an IPL match in Dharamshala was halted midway due to security concerns. Following this incident, the IPL Governing Council held an emergency meeting and made the decision to suspend the tournament.

On Thursday, a match was underway between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala when reports emerged of a Pakistani attack in Jammu. In response, authorities switched off lights in several northern Indian states, including the Dharamshala stadium, where floodlights went out and the match was eventually called off.

This is the first time the IPL has been suspended without relocating, even during national elections or the COVID-19 pandemic. The decision, as reported by BCCI sources, prioritizes the safety of players amid escalating geopolitical tensions.

There are still 12 league matches and four playoff games remaining in the tournament. The abandoned Punjab-Delhi match was not rescheduled or awarded points. If the tournament resumes later, this match may be replayed.

In a previous statement, IPL CEO Arun Dhumal told PTI: “We are closely monitoring the situation. It is changing rapidly. No directive has been given by the government yet. Decisions will be taken keeping all stakeholders in mind.”

Meanwhile, the remaining matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) are being shifted from Pakistan to the UAE due to similar security concerns.
