French Media Accuses Indian Government of Spreading Misinformation on Pahalgam Attack

Paris, May 4 – French media outlets have raised concerns over the Indian government’s alleged manipulation of facts surrounding the Pahalgam incident, accusing New Delhi of using artificial intelligence and fake content to shape a false narrative against Pakistan.
AI-Generated Misinformation
According to reports, viral videos and images shared online had no real connection to the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives. The individuals shown in these clips were wrongly presented as victims or attackers. One example cited was the misrepresentation of a couple’s old video, falsely linked to the deceased tourists.
Indian News Channels Involved
French media reports claim that Indian news channels aired unverified footage, further spreading misinformation. Victims and individuals shown in the videos later appeared on social media to deny the claims, stating that they had no connection to the attack.
International Reactions
Pakistan has called for an international and impartial investigation into the Pahalgam incident, an offer India has yet to acknowledge. Meanwhile, China, Türkiye, and Switzerland have expressed support for Pakistan’s stance, urging a fact-based and transparent inquiry.
Experts Call for Accountability
Journalists and analysts have pointed out that the lack of credible sources behind the viral content suggests state-backed propaganda. Experts warn that the use of AI-generated misinformation could further escalate tensions between India and Pakistan.
As diplomatic efforts unfold, the international community continues to monitor the situation closely.
