The Athletic Reports: Carlo Ancelotti Set to Become Brazil’s New Coach

Carlo Ancelotti is set to become the next head coach of the Brazil national football team, according to a report by The Athletic.

Efforts to bring Ancelotti to Brazil have been ongoing for quite some time, even before Dorival Júnior took charge. It was strongly rumored that the Italian manager would lead Brazil starting from the 2024 Copa América. However, those plans were delayed when Ancelotti renewed his contract with Real Madrid.

This time, however, it appears to be happening. The Athletic reports that Ancelotti will join the Brazil national team in June 2025. After ending his long-standing relationship with Real Madrid, one of the most successful managers in football history will take charge of the Seleção. Now, it’s just a matter of time.

According to the report, Ancelotti will not manage Real Madrid during the upcoming Club World Cup. He has already informed his players of his intention to leave. Ancelotti, a five-time UEFA Champions League winner, is expected to sign a one-year contract with Brazil, meaning he would lead the team through the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Reports suggest that negotiations accelerated after Real Madrid’s exit from the Champions League quarter-finals against Arsenal. Diego Fernandez, representing the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), reportedly met Ancelotti twice — first after the Champions League elimination and again after Real Madrid’s loss to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final.

Fabrizio Romano, a well-known transfer expert from Sky Italia, has confirmed that all terms between Ancelotti and the Brazilian Football Confederation have been finalized. CBF had insisted that Ancelotti take charge before the Club World Cup, and that agreement has now been reached.

Real Madrid is preparing to finalize all formalities related to Ancelotti’s departure. According to The Athletic, despite leaving in June, Ancelotti will receive his full salary, and the club may also offer him an ambassadorial role.

Meanwhile, discussions have already begun about Ancelotti’s backroom staff in Brazil. However, it is almost certain that his son, Davide Ancelotti, will not be part of the coaching team this time.

Following Ancelotti’s departure, Real Madrid will need a new head coach. Initially, they are considering appointing an interim manager for the Club World Cup, with Davide Ancelotti and sporting director Santiago Solari among the frontrunners for the role
