In the span of 24 hours from Thursday evening to Friday evening, Israeli airstrikes killed 84 Palestinians and injured at least 168 others in the Gaza Strip, according to a statement from Gaza’s Health Ministry.
The ministry noted that the actual number of casualties may be higher, as many people remain trapped under rubble and have not yet been accounted for.
Since the Israeli military (IDF) launched its offensive in Gaza in October 2023, the total number of casualties over the past 18 months has reached 51,400 killed and 116,416 injured—56% of whom are women and children.
Following the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas, in which 1,200 Israelis were killed and 251 taken hostage, Israel began its military campaign in Gaza. Although a ceasefire was announced on January 19 under international pressure, operations resumed on March 18 due to disagreements over the release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners.
In the current phase of the conflict, 2,060 Palestinians have been killed and 5,375 injured in the past 38 days.
Israel’s military has stated it aims to rescue the remaining hostages—around 35 are believed to still be alive—and to completely dismantle Hamas. Despite calls from the UN and the international community to halt the military campaign, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared the operation will continue until its objectives are fully achieved.
