UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called for restraint from both India and Pakistan amid escalating tensions following a deadly attack in Kashmir.
The situation has intensified between the two nations, with each imposing various sanctions on the other. Guterres, through his spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, expressed deep concern and said the UN is closely monitoring the developments.
“We were very clear in condemning the attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives,” said Dujarric. He emphasized that any disputes between India and Pakistan should be resolved through peaceful, meaningful, and mutual engagement.
Meanwhile, an exchange of gunfire occurred between the Indian and Pakistani armies along the Line of Control (LoC) on the night of April 24, according to Indian media outlet NDTV. Reports indicate that Pakistani forces first fired at several Indian posts, prompting retaliatory fire from the Indian army. No casualties have been reported.
