A horrific terrorist attack took place on Tuesday (April 22) in the Baisaran area of Pahalgam, often referred to as “Mini Switzerland” by tourists. As visitors were enjoying the natural beauty of the region, a group of armed militants opened fire indiscriminately on tourists, killing 26 people.
Among the deceased was a brave Kashmiri youth, Syed Adil Hussain Shah, who worked as a horse guide in Baisaran to support his livelihood. That day began like any other, but around 3 PM, when the attack started, Adil rushed to protect the tourists and became a target himself.
Eyewitnesses reported that Adil attempted to snatch a weapon from one of the attackers to save a tourist. In doing so, he was shot multiple times and killed on the spot.
His courageous act has cast a shadow of grief over the region. Hundreds of people, including Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, attended his funeral. The Chief Minister praised Adil’s bravery, saying, “He not only lost his life but displayed exceptional courage. We stand by his family and will support them in every possible way.”
Adil’s father, Syed Haider Shah, said, “He left home for work like every other day. When I heard about the attack and couldn’t reach him by phone, I feared the worst. Later, the police confirmed that he was no more. Those responsible must be brought to justice.”
His mother, in tears, added, “He was the only earning member of the family. Oh Allah, why did this happen to us?”
The tragic death of Syed Adil Hussain Shah has not only left his family in mourning but also united the local community in grief and admiration for his selfless act of heroism.
