Israel Launches World’s First Nationwide AI Tutoring System

Tel Aviv, Israel – April 22, 2025
Israel is set to become the first country to roll out a nationwide AI tutoring system, marking a groundbreaking step in the integration of artificial intelligence into education. The initiative is a collaboration between eSelf, a global leader in conversational AI, and the Center for Educational Technology (CET), Israel’s largest K-12 textbook publisher. The pilot program will initially focus on Hebrew instruction and aims to provide every K-12 student with a personalized AI tutor.
Harvard University’s Role in the Project
The program is backed by Harvard University, which will serve as an academic advisor, guiding the methodology and evaluating the impact of the AI tutoring system. Harvard’s involvement underscores the global significance of this initiative, as the university aims to ensure the system’s effectiveness in addressing educational challenges.
How the AI Tutors Work
eSelf’s AI tutors are designed as interactive avatars that adapt to each student’s learning needs. These avatars provide real-time, multilingual support and offer visual explanations tailored to classroom content. By continuously analyzing individual strengths and weaknesses, the AI tutors deliver personalized guidance, helping students deepen their understanding, practice independently, and prepare for exams.
Addressing Global Educational Challenges
The initiative comes at a critical time, as the world faces a severe teacher shortage, with UNESCO projecting a deficit of 44 million primary and secondary educators. The AI tutoring system aims to close educational gaps and promote equity by making effective tutoring accessible to all students. The program also seeks to set a new benchmark for AI integration in education, demonstrating how technology can supplement traditional teaching methods without replacing human educators.
Future Expansion
While the pilot program begins with Hebrew instruction, plans are underway to expand the system to other subjects and languages. The initiative is expected to redefine personalized learning and empower students to achieve their academic potential.
