Bangladesh Qualifies for ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 After Dramatic Finish

April 19, 2025 – Lahore, Pakistan: Bangladesh has secured its place in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, following a thrilling conclusion to the World Cup Qualifiers. The team edged past West Indies on Net Run Rate, booking their spot alongside hosts Pakistan for the marquee tournament set to be held later this year in India.
Heartbreak for West Indies
With Bangladesh and West Indies tied on points, the final match against Thailand became a must-win for the Caribbean side. West Indies needed to chase 167 runs in just 10.1 overs to qualify. However, despite a valiant effort, they fell 11 runs short as the 10th over concluded. Heading into the final two balls, they needed a four and a six to keep their World Cup hopes alive, but the dramatic finish confirmed Bangladesh’s qualification.
Bangladesh’s Road to Qualification
Bangladesh had a strong Qualifier campaign, winning three out of five matches. They started with a dominant 178-run victory over Thailand, followed by a narrow two-wicket win against Ireland and a solid performance against Scotland. However, a loss to West Indies meant they needed a win against Pakistan to secure their spot. After falling to Pakistan, Bangladesh’s fate rested on West Indies’ final match, where the Caribbean side narrowly missed out.

  • Batting Standouts: Nigar Sultana Joty, Sharmin Akhter, and Ritu Moni played crucial roles in Bangladesh’s campaign.
  • Bowling Stars: Fahima Khatun, Jannatul Ferdus, and Rabeya Khan delivered match-winning performances with the ball.
