The trade war between the United States and China continues to intensify. Washington has been announcing new tariffs on the world’s second-largest economy at regular intervals. As part of this trend, U.S. President Donald Trump has now raised the tariff rate on China to 245%.
This information was disclosed by the White House in a statement on Tuesday night (April 15), according to Anadolu Agency.
According to the report, the latest administrative order states that the White House has initiated a national security investigation into the import of critical resources. The order also includes an explanation of the reciprocal tariffs announced on April 2.
The White House further stated that, in response to China’s retaliatory measures, President Donald Trump has decided to impose tariffs of up to 245% on imports of Chinese goods.
Initially, Trump’s tariff imposition applied to many countries. However, after more than 75 countries reached out to the Trump administration, the tariffs imposed on them were suspended for three months.
