Cate Blanchett Considers Leaving Acting: “I Am Serious”

Two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett has shocked fans by revealing she’s seriously considering stepping away from acting to explore other paths in life.

In an interview with Radio Times, the acclaimed Australian actress opened up about her long-standing discomfort with fame, saying, “My family roll their eyes every time I say it, but I mean it – I am serious about giving up acting. [There are] a lot of things I want to do with my life.”

Blanchett, whose career spans 35 years with roles in films that have grossed over $1 billion worldwide, explained that being in the spotlight has never come naturally to her.

“I’ve always felt like I’m on the periphery of things… I’ve spent a lifetime getting comfortable with the feeling of being uncomfortable,” she said, adding that public appearances and media soundbites often misrepresent her.

Despite these reflections, Blanchett is enjoying major success this year with her latest film, Black Bag, a gripping spy thriller directed by Steven Soderbergh. The film, which co-stars Michael Fassbender, has received near-perfect reviews and may stand as one of the highlights of her career.

Whether or not she retires from the screen, Blanchett’s legacy in film is firmly cemented — but it seems her next chapter could be something entirely new.
