Anthony Mackie Promises ‘Old Marvel Feeling’ in Avengers: Doomsday

Anthony Mackie is promising a major return to form for the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.

In a recent interview with IGN, Mackie — who reprised his role as Sam Wilson in Captain America: Brave New World earlier this year — shared his excitement about the film and teased a nostalgic shift in tone that long-time fans of the franchise will appreciate.

“Everybody’s excited,” Mackie said. “I feel with the script and having the Russo Brothers back, it’s going to be great. It’s going to give the audience that old Marvel feeling that they always had.”

With the return of the Avengers: Endgame directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, the film aims to recapture the energy and emotional weight that helped make the MCU a cultural phenomenon.

Avengers: Doomsday is packed with a star-studded ensemble of returning heroes and surprising new roles. Chris Hemsworth is back as Thor, joined by Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier, Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man, and Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, aka the new Falcon. But the biggest twist might be Robert Downey Jr.’s return—not as Iron Man, but as the film’s central villain, Victor Von Doom.

The movie will also bring together Marvel’s expanding multiverse, pulling in legacy characters from Fox’s X-Men franchise. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), James Marsden (Cyclops), and Rebecca Romijn (Mystique) are all confirmed. Channing Tatum will also appear as Gambit, continuing his portrayal from 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine.

Before fans get to Doomsday, Marvel has a big 2025 lined up. Thunderbolts is set to release May 2, followed by The Fantastic Four: First Steps on July 25.

With high expectations and the return of familiar faces both in front of and behind the camera, Avengers: Doomsday could mark a pivotal moment in Marvel’s next cinematic era — one that brings back the magic that started it all.
