Tariffs on Semiconductors Coming Soon: Donald Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that tariffs will soon be imposed on semiconductor imports. A formal declaration on the matter is expected next week.

“We want to manufacture chips, semiconductors, and other items in our own country,” said President Trump.

When asked whether certain products like smartphones might be exempt, Trump declined to comment directly, stating, “You have to show some flexibility. No one should be too rigid.”

In a social media post, Trump said that the upcoming national security tariff investigation will focus on semiconductors and the entire electronics supply chain.

Addressing rumors surrounding his recent announcement last Friday, Trump clarified that no country will be exempt from the new tariffs. He emphasized that the existing 20% tariff on Chinese electronics is still in place, although now classified under a different tariff category.

Previously, Trump had announced an increase in tariffs on Chinese goods to 125%. Later, his administration confirmed that this would be added to the existing 20% tariff, making the total tariff 145%.

Rumors had circulated that Chinese computers and certain electronic devices might be exempt from the increased tariffs, but President Trump dismissed those claims.
