Statement from Tulip Siddiq’s Legal Counsel Regarding Reported ACC Actions

We are aware of media reports circulating today which claim that an arrest warrant has been issued by Bangladeshi authorities against our client, Ms. Tulip Siddiq.

To date, Ms. Siddiq has not been contacted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) or by any other authority in Bangladesh. As her legal representatives, we are authorized to make the following statement on her behalf:

“Over the past few months, the ACC has made a number of unfounded allegations against Ms. Siddiq through the media. These claims are entirely false and have been addressed in writing by her legal team.

Despite this, the ACC has neither responded to Ms. Siddiq nor communicated any allegations directly to her or through her lawyers. She is unaware of any hearing scheduled in Dhaka concerning her and has no knowledge of any arrest warrant allegedly issued.

To be absolutely clear, there is no factual or legal basis for any charges against Ms. Siddiq. The claim that she obtained a plot of land in Dhaka through illegal means is entirely untrue.

Ms. Siddiq has never owned any land in Bangladesh, nor has she influenced or been involved in the allocation of land to her family members or anyone else. No credible evidence has been provided by the ACC to support these or any other allegations made against her. It is evident that the accusations are politically motivated.”

We request that any reporting on this matter include Ms. Siddiq’s full statement as outlined above.
