A Minecraft Movie’ Breaks Box Office Record

Warner Bros.’ A Minecraft Movie has officially set a new box office milestone, breaking the record for the biggest preview earnings ever for a video game adaptation.

Directed by Jared Hess, the film pulled in an impressive $10.55 million during previews, surpassing the previous record-holder Five Nights at Freddy’s, which earned $10.3 million in 2023. This strong opening positions A Minecraft Movie as a major contender in the gaming-to-film adaptation genre.

While the preview earnings are remarkable, analysts note that it’s unlikely to surpass the staggering $204.6 million five-day opening of The Super Mario Bros Movie, which didn’t have traditional previews due to its Wednesday release.

Starring Jason Momoa, Jack Black, and Jennifer Coolidge, the film has been described as “stupidly hilarious” by early viewers. Fans can also look forward to a post-credit scene that’s already generating buzz online.

Initial projections estimated a $75 million opening weekend, but after these record-breaking previews, expectations are quickly rising.

A Minecraft Movie also outpaced all preview records set by the Sonic the Hedgehog series — with Sonic 1 making $3 million, Sonic 2 earning $5 million, and Sonic 3 bringing in $6.5 million.

In addition to its comedic tone and all-star cast, the film pays a heartfelt tribute to the late YouTuber Technoblade, a beloved figure in the Minecraft community.

With momentum building and fan reactions pouring in, A Minecraft Movie is shaping up to be one of the year’s biggest family-friendly hits.
