Over 100 Killed in Sudanese Military Airstrike

Khartoum, March 25, 2025 – Sudan’s military has carried out an airstrike in the western Darfur region, killing over 100 people, according to a conflict-monitoring group. The attack targeted Turrah Market, leaving hundreds of civilians dead or injured.

The Emergency Lawyers, a Sudanese war observer group, described the attack as a “horrific massacre.” Social media posts from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) showed widespread destruction, with charred bodies and thick smoke rising from the market ruins.

A Sudanese military spokesperson denied targeting civilians, stating that their strikes were directed solely at enemy positions. Both the Sudanese army and the RSF have been accused of repeated attacks on civilian areas. The RSF controls much of Darfur, where it has deployed drones, while the army continues airstrikes using warplanes.

The exact death toll and date of the attack remain unconfirmed. However, Darfur Initiative for Justice and Peace, a local human rights organization, stated that the attack occurred on Monday and called it one of the deadliest incidents since the conflict began.

Since April 2023, the war between Sudan’s military and the RSF has killed at least 150,000 people. The United Nations has warned that the conflict has created one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
