US May Take Control of Ukraine’s Power Plants

Following a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for about an hour. Zelensky described the conversation as “quite good” and expressed optimism that, under Trump’s leadership, lasting peace might be achieved this year.

According to the White House, discussions have taken place regarding the transfer of ownership of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants to the United States. However, Zelensky clarified that this issue is limited to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which is currently under Russian control.

Trump noted that by using American power and utility expertise, the US could operate these power plants more effectively. Additionally, Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Trump agreed to support Ukraine, especially with extra air defense measures in Europe, and that both leaders committed to enhancing intelligence-sharing among their defense teams.

Zelensky also emphasized that any partial ceasefire—covering key infrastructures such as power, rail, and port facilities—remains tentative until a formal agreement is reached, warning that any violation of ceasefire terms would lead to retaliatory actions.
