Tesla Recalls Over 46,000 Cybertrucks Amid Safety Concerns

Tesla has announced the recall of 46,096 Cybertruck vehicles in the United States due to concerns over a stainless-steel exterior trim panel, known as the cant rail, which could delaminate and detach while driving. The recall, revealed on March 20, highlights safety risks as detached panels may become road hazards, increasing the likelihood of accidents.

The company has pledged to replace the affected rail assembly free of charge. This recall represents a significant portion of Cybertruck vehicles on the road, according to analysts, and adds to a series of setbacks for Tesla’s unconventional EV pickup truck, which has faced delays and weakening demand since late 2024.

Tesla shares fell nearly 2% in pre-market trading following the announcement. The company’s stock has dropped 42% in 2025 amid a sluggish EV market and concerns over CEO Elon Musk’s involvement in government affairs potentially distracting from his leadership of Tesla.

Despite Tesla’s dominance in the EV market, the brand accounted for 21% of all US vehicle recalls in the first three quarters of 2024, according to BizzyCar. While many issues were resolved through over-the-air software updates, the Cybertruck recall underscores challenges for Tesla as it faces rising competition and shifting consumer preferences.
