Kraven the Hunter Becomes Netflix Hit After Box Office Flop

Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven the Hunter is making waves on Netflix after a disappointing performance at the box office. The film, which stars Taylor-Johnson as the infamous Spider-Man villain Sergei Kravinoff, originally premiered with little fanfare, earning just $11 million in its opening weekend and landing in third place at the U.S. box office. Despite its lackluster reception, Kraven the Hunter has found new life on the streaming giant.

Released last year as part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, which also includes the Venom trilogy and the critically panned Madame Web, Kraven the Hunter follows Kravinoff, the son of a crime lord, as he seeks to prove himself as the greatest hunter in the world. However, the film did not receive favorable reviews, currently holding a dismal 15% score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics.

Despite these setbacks, Kraven the Hunter is seeing a resurgence on Netflix, where it debuted on the streaming platform recently. In its first week, the film climbed to third place on the platform’s Top Ten global movies list, based solely on its U.S. release. As of now, Kraven the Hunter has been streamed 7.1 million times, trailing behind the SpongeBob spinoff Plankton: The Movie and Millie Bobby Brown’s sci-fi adventure The Electric State.

The film’s shift from box office disappointment to Netflix success highlights the growing trend of movies finding second lives on streaming platforms. While critics were largely unkind, praising only Taylor-Johnson’s performance and some of the action sequences, it seems that the film is resonating with a new audience on Netflix, eager for action-packed content.

Despite its rocky start, Kraven the Hunter continues to make an impact in the world of streaming, proving that not every flop needs to remain forgotten.
