42,000 Citizenship Revoked in Kuwait in Six Months

More than 42,000 people have lost their citizenship in Kuwait over the past six months. This move is part of a large-scale administrative review conducted by the Kuwaiti government to ensure compliance with the country’s National Citizenship Law and legal residency regulations.

The initiative, led by a Supreme Committee under the Ministry of Interior, aims to address cases of irregular citizenship, violations of dual nationality laws, and instances of fraud or misrepresentation in acquiring citizenship.

Authorities emphasized that the process strictly follows Kuwaiti law and reflects the country’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of its nationality system. Citizenship revocation is legally permitted in cases involving fraud, dishonesty, or activities that threaten national security.

Each case undergoes individual review, with decisions made based on thorough investigations and legal assessments. The primary goal is to correct inconsistencies in the national registry and ensure fairness in the distribution of public services and benefits.

Kuwait does not allow dual citizenship. Individuals found holding another nationality while retaining Kuwaiti citizenship are subject to legal action.

Officials clarified that this initiative is not a punitive campaign but an administrative and legal review aimed at enhancing transparency, reducing bureaucratic discrepancies, and ensuring the sustainability of national welfare programs.
