Jenna Ortega, known for her iconic role as Wednesday Addams in Netflix’s Wednesday, has secured her next lead movie role in the upcoming remake of the classic ’90s psychological thriller Single White Female. According to Variety, the film, which was originally based on John Lutz’s novel SWF Seeks Same, is being revamped by Sony and 3000 Pictures.
The original 1992 film starred Bridget Fonda as Allison, a woman who, after breaking up with her cheating fiancé, advertises for a female roommate. What seems like a simple solution to loneliness quickly turns dark when the clingy and unstable applicant, Hedra (played by Jennifer Jason Leigh), moves in and begins exhibiting increasingly strange and disturbing behavior.
Jenna Ortega, who has become a rising star in the horror and thriller genres, is set to take on the lead role of Allison. Ortega has a history with creepy and unsettling projects, including You, Beetlejuice 2, Scream VI, and X. Fans of Ortega will also see her in Death of a Unicorn, a horror-comedy releasing next month, where she stars alongside Paul Rudd. Additionally, Ortega has signed on for Hurry Up Tomorrow, a psychological thriller co-starring Barry Keoghan.
Taylor Russell, another rising star, is also in talks to join the project, though additional details regarding the full cast and creative team are yet to be announced.
