The Kremlin has announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed cautious optimism regarding a U.S.-proposed 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine. During late-night talks in Moscow with Steve Witkoff, U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Putin conveyed “signals” to Trump about the proposal, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Kyiv has already accepted the ceasefire plan, and Putin has reportedly voiced support for Trump’s position on a settlement. However, Peskov noted that there are still questions that need to be addressed collaboratively. “There is still a lot to be done, but the president expressed solidarity with Mr. Trump’s position,” Peskov stated.
The Kremlin confirmed that discussions are ongoing to schedule a phone call between Putin and Trump, following Witkoff’s briefing to the U.S. President. This development marks a potential step forward in efforts to achieve a temporary halt to hostilities in the ongoing conflict.
