10 Mosques in India to be Covered Before Holi to Maintain Peace

To prevent any unrest during the Holi festival, authorities in India have planned to cover 10 mosques in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district. Holi will be celebrated on Friday, March 14, coinciding with the Jumu’ah (Friday prayers) during Ramadan, a rare occurrence in the past 60 years.

According to a report by NDTV on Wednesday, March 12, the Uttar Pradesh administration has decided to cover these mosques to maintain communal harmony.

Sambhal Superintendent of Police (SP) Shrirish Chandra stated in a media briefing that the move aims to ensure a peaceful celebration for both communities. He mentioned that 10 mosques along the traditional route of the “Chaupai” procession—an integral part of Holi celebrations—have been identified for coverage to prevent any tension or conflicts.

Authorities have also arranged to reschedule the Friday prayers to avoid overlap with the Holi procession. Additionally, entry into mosque premises by outsiders will be restricted on that day.

The mosques identified for coverage include:

Shahi Jama Masjid

Ladhania Wali Masjid

Thane Wali Masjid

Ekraat Masjid

Gurudwara Road Masjid

Gol Masjid

Khajur Wali Masjid

Aana Wali Masjid

Gol Dukan Wali Masjid

A peace meeting was held at Sambhal police station, where religious leaders from both communities discussed ways to prevent communal tensions during Holi and Friday prayers.

Local authorities and the Uttar Pradesh police have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance to ensure a peaceful celebration.
