Ukraine Launches Massive Overnight Drone Attack on Moscow

Ukraine carried out a large-scale drone attack on Moscow and its surrounding regions overnight, resulting in at least one death and three injuries. This is reported to be the most significant attack on Russian territory since Russia launched its full-scale military operation in Ukraine in February 2022.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials reported Russian drone attacks on Kyiv and several other regions, though the number of casualties remains unclear.

Casualties and Damage
Andrei Vorobyov, the regional governor, confirmed that casualties occurred in the towns of Vidnoye and Domodedovo, just outside Moscow. Seven apartments in a residential building were damaged. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that 73 drones headed toward the city were shot down, with debris damaging a building’s roof.

Following the attack, a district train network was suspended, and flight restrictions were imposed at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, and Vnukovo airports.

Timing of the Attack
The attack happened just hours before an emergency meeting between U.S. and Ukrainian representatives in Saudi Arabia, aimed at finding a resolution to the ongoing war.

Russia’s Response
Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed to have intercepted or destroyed 337 Ukrainian drones overnight in Moscow and nine other regions. Ukraine has not officially commented on the attack.
