An Air India flight en route to New York had to turn back midway after a bomb threat was received. The threat, however, was later found to be false.
The flight, a Boeing 777, had 303 passengers and 19 crew members on board. After taking off from Mumbai and heading towards Azerbaijan, the crew received the bomb threat. As a result, the flight turned back eight hours into the journey and returned to Mumbai.
Upon landing, tight security measures were taken, and it was determined that the bomb threat was a hoax. The flight, AI-119, was originally scheduled to fly to New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport. It is set to depart again at 5 PM on Tuesday.
Air India issued a statement confirming the return of the flight due to the security threat and stated that passenger arrangements were made during the delay. Further security protocols are now being followed.
