Qatar’s Prime Minister Warns of Severe Water Crisis if Iran is Attacked

Source: Kalbela Desk | Updated: March 9, 2025, 8:18 PM

Amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, Israel, with U.S. support, continues to threaten an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Israeli leaders and media are pushing this narrative, aiming to shape public opinion against Iran.

A recent U.S. intelligence report suggested that Israel might strike Iran’s nuclear sites, raising concerns among Persian Gulf nations about potential environmental disasters.

Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, warned that such an attack could lead to a severe water crisis in the Persian Gulf within just three days. He made this statement during an interview with American commentator Tucker Carlson, as reported by Gulf News on March 8.

Sheikh Al Thani highlighted the catastrophic impact of a potential attack on Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant. He stated that water pollution would lead to an environmental crisis, with Qatar and other Gulf nations, including Kuwait and the UAE, facing acute water shortages.

Despite geopolitical differences, Qatar maintains bilateral relations with Iran. Sheikh Al Thani emphasized Qatar’s geographical and strategic closeness to Iran, making severing ties impractical.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, also warned that any attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities could trigger a widespread conflict in the region.

Experts believe such an escalation could destabilize the Middle East and alter the global balance of power.
