Washington aims to draft a peace agreement to end the Russia-Ukraine war. To discuss this potential draft, US and Ukrainian government representatives will meet next week in Saudi Arabia.
US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz announced this during a briefing on Friday at the Oval Office. He stated, “We are preparing a draft peace agreement with Ukraine’s government delegation. The meeting will take place in Saudi Arabia next week. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and I will be present as representatives of the US government.”
Waltz emphasized that President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated the need to end the war. The US is now entering “shuttle diplomacy,” meaning it will listen to both Ukraine and Russia and prepare the agreement based on discussions with both sides.
Additionally, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will visit the US next week to discuss the possible peace agreement.
After winning the 2024 presidential election, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Trump. On February 12, Trump called Putin, and six days later, on February 18, they met in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Their discussions focused on ending the Ukraine war and improving US-Russia relations.
