Washington, March 5, 2025: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has sent a letter to U.S. President Donald Trump expressing Ukraine’s willingness to sit at the negotiation table to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Trump confirmed receiving the letter during a speech to Congress on Tuesday.
In the letter, Zelensky wrote, “Ukraine is ready to sit at the negotiation table as soon as possible for lasting peace. No one wants peace more than the Ukrainians.”
President Trump stated that he is engaged in important discussions with Russia and has received a strong indication that Russia is ready for peace. “Wouldn’t that be wonderful? It’s time to stop this madness, to end the killings, and to finish this senseless war. If you want to end a war, you have to talk to both sides,” Trump said.
However, Trump did not provide detailed information on how he plans to end the largest conflict in Europe since World War II.
The U.S. President also mentioned that Ukraine is prepared to sign a mineral deal with the United States. However, sources indicated that the Trump administration and Ukraine plan to sign the deal in exchange for military aid, though Trump has delayed the signing.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Basent told Fox News that there are no plans to sign a mineral deal with Ukraine.
Earlier on Tuesday, Zelensky expressed regret over a controversial meeting with Trump at the Oval Office last week and pledged to repair Ukraine’s relationship with the U.S.
Zelensky reiterated that he is ready to sign a mineral deal with the United States at any time.
