In response to US tariffs on Canadian products, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced counter-tariffs on the United States. Canada has imposed an immediate 25% tariff on $30 billion worth of American imports.
Trudeau accused the US of initiating a “trade war” against Canada. According to a report by Indian news outlet NDTV on Tuesday (March 4), Trudeau pledged to fight back against the extensive tariffs imposed by the US on Canadian products.
Calling the US move a “trade war,” Trudeau warned that it would primarily harm American citizens. He emphasized that Canadians are “polite,” but they would not back down, especially when the country’s welfare is at stake.
During a speech from Parliament Hill, Trudeau criticized US President Donald Trump’s decision, calling it “extremely foolish.” He also questioned the rationale behind imposing tariffs on a close ally like Canada while working with Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom Trudeau has previously called a “murderer and dictator.”
