Demi Moore Breaks Silence After Shock Oscars Loss

Demi Moore has broken her silence after unexpectedly losing the Oscar for Best Actress to Mikey Madison. The actress had been nominated for her performance in the body horror film The Substance and was widely considered a frontrunner for the award. However, she ultimately lost out to Mikey Madison, who won for her role in Anora at the 2025 Oscars ceremony on Sunday, March 2, held at the Dolby Theatre.

Taking to Instagram, Moore shared a video of herself preparing for the event, along with a heartfelt caption expressing her gratitude for the journey and congratulating Madison on her win.

“As this awards season comes to a close, I’m so overwhelmed with gratitude for this journey,” Moore wrote. “It’s been the ride of a lifetime and we’re just getting started! So grateful for my team, my fellow nominees, and everyone who has made this experience so full of joy and light.”

She continued, “Thank you to the cast, crew, and fans of @trythesubstance — @isimostar and @coralie_fargeat, it’s been such an honor to work alongside you, learn from you, and celebrate this film with you.”

Moore concluded with a warm message for Madison: “And a huge congratulations to #MikeyMadison — can’t wait to see what you do next.”

Moore’s gracious response was praised by fans and celebrities alike in the comments section, including actress Sarah Paulson, who called her “an absolute queen and the classiest of the classy.” Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie also wrote, “THE GREATEST.”

Although Moore did not take home the Oscar, she had an impressive awards season, winning Best Actress at the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice Awards, and the SAG Awards just last month.

It was a tightly contested race between Moore and Madison, who had already claimed victory at the BAFTAs and beat Moore at the Independent Spirit Awards.
