Harrison Ford will no longer be presenting at the 97th Academy Awards, which will take place this Sunday night. Variety confirmed that Ford’s last-minute exit was due to a shingles diagnosis, which he received on Friday. According to the Mayo Clinic, shingles is a viral infection that causes a painful rash, typically appearing as a single stripe of blisters on one side of the torso. Although not life-threatening, the condition can be extremely uncomfortable.
Ford’s withdrawal was initially reported by Entertainment Weekly. Despite his absence, many star-studded presenters are still set to take the stage at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, including Halle Berry, Penélope Cruz, Scarlett Johansson, Emma Stone, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Downey Jr., and many more.
The Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, will begin at 4 p.m. PT and 7 p.m. ET on March 4. The show can be watched live on ABC or streamed on Hulu, which is offering an additional viewing option for the first time this year.
The ceremony will be executive produced by Raj Kapoor, Katy Mullan, and Rob Pain, with Hamish Hamilton directing the show.
