Trump Hints at Withdrawing the US from Russia-Ukraine War

After a failed meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, U.S. President Donald Trump has hinted at withdrawing the United States from the Russia-Ukraine war. He made this indication in a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social.

In his statement, Trump said, *”We had a very meaningful meeting at the White House today. I learned things during this intense and pressured discussion that I was not previously aware of. I was quite surprised to realize that as long as the United States remains involved in this war, President Zelensky will never be ready for peace. He sees our involvement as a major opportunity and believes he can leverage it whenever peace and negotiation are on the table.

“I do not want opportunities; I want peace. He disrespected the United States and the Oval Office. When he is ready for peace, he may return to the Oval Office.”

The Russia-Ukraine war began on February 24, 2022, when Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a military invasion of Ukraine. At the time, Joe Biden was the U.S. President, and his administration strongly supported Ukraine, providing significant military and financial aid to Kyiv. Over the past three years, Washington has given Ukraine billions of dollars in support.

Trump has been a vocal critic of the war, often stating that it wastes a huge amount of money and costs lives. Since taking office on January 20, he has actively sought to mediate a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. His invitation to President Zelensky for a meeting at the White House on Friday was part of this effort.
