The United States has announced plans to cut more than 90% of its foreign aid agreements through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The new administration, led by President Donald Trump, is set to halt $60 billion in global aid.
Most of the development and humanitarian assistance that the U.S. provides worldwide will be significantly reduced under the new administration.
Focus on Reducing Government Size
President Trump and his close ally, Elon Musk, are prioritizing the reduction of federal government expenditures, with foreign aid being one of their main targets. They argue that USAID misuses American taxpayer money.
Previously, the Trump administration announced plans to either lay off or place nearly all USAID employees on administrative leave.
Elon Musk’s Role
Elon Musk, who leads the newly established “Government Efficiency Department,” is spearheading efforts to shut down USAID entirely. He has described the agency as a “criminal organization” and a “toxic group of anti-American, far-left Marxists.”
Trump and his allies claim that USAID is plagued by corruption and unnecessary spending, arguing that it has deviated from its original mission and is instead promoting a liberal political agenda.
Controversy Over Musk’s Canadian Citizenship
Meanwhile, more than 250,000 people have signed a petition demanding the revocation of Elon Musk’s Canadian citizenship. He has been accused of undermining Canada’s sovereignty.
The petition states that Musk has become a member of a foreign government attempting to erase Canada’s sovereignty. Additionally, Musk is a U.S. citizen and serves as one of President Trump’s top advisors.
