Shakira’s Lamborghini Giveaway Winner Selling the Car

The lucky winner of Shakira’s custom Lamborghini Urus is preparing to part ways with the luxury car due to the high costs of maintaining it.

Michael Mejía, who won the car in a giveaway held by Shakira, shared his decision during an appearance on El Gordo y La Flaca on Monday, Feb. 24. Despite receiving the car just last week, Mejía revealed that he’s planning to sell it because the expenses required to keep it running are overwhelming.

Mejía, who won the giveaway in December after submitting a dance video to Shakira’s song “Soltera” on Instagram and TikTok with the hashtag #ElCarroDeShakira, was initially thrilled with his prize. However, the reality of maintaining the Lamborghini has been far more costly than he anticipated.

“I won the car, and Shakira also gave me $90,000 to maintain it,” Mejía explained. “But that amount only covered a fraction of the costs.”

He went on to describe the additional expenses, including taxes, legal matters, and a hefty insurance fee of more than $2,000 per month. “Filling up the gas tank costs $70 every two days,” he added, further highlighting the ongoing financial commitment.

While Shakira had generously covered some initial costs, including six months of insurance and the car transfer taxes, Mejía said he now faces a significant federal tax bill at the end of the year—approximately $95,000.

Mejía admitted that he’s already received several offers for the car, some even suggesting that he sell it in parts. “Someone offered me between $700,000 and $800,000. That’s amazing! I think it’s anyone’s dream to have a million dollars,” he said.

Shakira had announced the Lamborghini giveaway in celebration of the release of her hit song “Soltera” and as a gesture of gratitude for the immense support she received after her split from ex Gerard Piqué. The customized purple car, which Shakira had bought for herself as a symbol of her new chapter, was meant to bring joy to one lucky fan.

Reflecting on the giveaway, Shakira explained, “This car was a gift to myself as I began my single life, but I realized that what truly matters is human connection.” She added, “The car, the clothes, the material things — they don’t transform us. It’s the people we love and the connections we build that truly make a difference.”

Despite the challenges of maintaining the car, it appears that the giveaway has made a lasting impact on both Shakira and her fans.
