Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King has surpassed expectations, roaring past USD 700 million at the global box office. As of February 24, the film added USD 180,000 domestically, bringing its U.S. total to USD 245.6 million. Internationally, it earned USD 650,000 across 53 markets, pushing its overseas total to USD 454.4 million. With these strong numbers, the film is now eyeing a final global total between USD 710 million and USD 720 million.
Directed by Barry Jenkins and written by Jeff Nathanson, Mufasa: The Lion King serves as both a prequel and a sequel to the 2019 Lion King remake. The film explores Mufasa’s origin story while continuing Simba’s reign as King. The star-studded cast includes Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Donald Glover, Beyoncé, John Kani, and newcomers such as Aaron Pierre and Mads Mikkelsen. Blue Ivy Carter also makes her debut in the film.
Despite initial doubts, Mufasa continues to attract audiences, proving that Disney’s Lion King franchise remains as beloved as ever. As the film’s box office run continues, it solidifies its place as a successful addition to the iconic series.
For those who haven’t yet seen it, Mufasa: The Lion King is still showing in theaters. If you’re looking for other options, Captain America: Brave New World and The Monkey are also great picks.
