A British MP has been sentenced to prison for punching a voter. During a heated argument, he punched a voter on the street, knocking him down. As a result, he has been sentenced to 10 weeks in jail.
According to a BBC report, the accused MP is Mike Amesbury, a former Labour MP. He admitted to punching a man in his Cheshire constituency and was subsequently sentenced to 10 weeks in prison.
The incident occurred on October 26 last year in Frodsham, Cheshire. At that time, Labour MP Mike Amesbury got into a heated argument with a man named Paul Fellows. During the argument, he punched Fellows, accusing him of not voting in the election.
A video of the incident later went viral on social media, leading to Amesbury’s expulsion from the Labour Party.
The victim later filed a court case against Amesbury. In court, the 55-year-old MP apologized for his actions, describing the incident as “deeply regrettable.”
On Monday, District Judge Tan Ikram sentenced Amesbury to 10 weeks in jail following a hearing.
