Bangladeshi Film Star Couple’s Daughter Attacked at Home

Lamiya Chowdhury, daughter of late Bangladeshi film stars Parveen Sultana Diti and Sohel Chowdhury, has fallen victim to a violent attack at her home in Sonargaon, Narayanganj. A group of armed assailants stormed her residence on Saturday afternoon, vandalizing her car and injuring her leg.

Following the attack, Lamiya went live on Facebook, pleading for help. Reports indicate that the attack was related to a land dispute, with nearly 30-40 attackers invading her home.

‘They tried to seize my property and attacked me. They have broken my leg. I barely escaped with my life and am heading back to Dhaka,” Lamiya stated.

She later posted several emotional Facebook statuses, one reading, “They broke my leg. I’m trying to go to the hospital, but they won’t let me. They smashed my car. I can’t walk.”

Another post expressed her desperation, “Is there no one by my side? Are my parents’ deaths the reason why I have no one to stand with me?”

While Lamiya has not yet publicly identified the attackers, the incident comes shortly after she called for reforms in Bangladesh’s Islamic inheritance laws, which sparked backlash from religious groups. Many believe the attack was a result of her stance on the issue.

Authorities have yet to comment on the incident, and cultural figures, including adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, have remained silent. As violence surges across the country, many Bangladeshis are questioning the state of public safety, asking:

“If the child of two renowned celebrities is not safe in her own home, what about the common people?”
